“Step on a tail”
Video performance and wax-pencil drawing with plush fabric, buttons, and synthetic hair
4 minutes / 63 cm x 30 cm
2022
This work satirizes the moralistic repetition embedded in cancel-culture discourse, where ideals of purity and moral superiority deny the inevitable contradictions of human existence. Referencing the expression “todxs tenemos cola que nos pisen” (“we all have a tail someone can step on”), the piece highlights the so-called “naturalness” of our most undesirable traits as a species. A drawing sourced from the Texas Health Museum—intervened with a hair tail attached to what resembles the display of a vertebral structure—accompanies the video performance.
